Billing Policy

Effective 1st November 2025, Barmera Medical Clinic is pleased to announce that we have become a fully bulk-billing practice, in line with the Strengthening Medicare Initiative.
From this date, eligible services such as GP consultations will be bulk billed for all patients who hold a current and valid Medicare card.  Eligible services include:
  • GP Consultations (face to face and telehealth)
  • Chronic condition management plans
  • Mental Health treatment plans
  • Health Assessments

If you're visiting under Workers Compensation, please make sure to bring your claim number with you each time you attend.

Please note that some services are not covered under this initiative and will continue to attract private fees.  In these cases, there will be a gap fee (an out of pocket cost).  These include (but are not limited to):
  • Procedures (e.g. skin excisions)
  • Diagnostic procedures (e.g. ECG, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, spirometry)
  • Medical assessments (e.g. pre-employment, heavy vehicle driver’s licence, insurance medicals)
  • Wound care, fracture treatment and associated supplies
  • Paperwork, reports or forms not funded by Medicare
  • Non-Medicare Benefit Scheduled Services
  • Patients without a Medicare number

All payments must be made on the day of your visit, and we accept cash, EFTPOS or credit card (please note: we do not accept Diners Club or AMEX). An additional $10 will be applied to your account if not settled in full on the day.  If you are unable to pay the full fee on the day, please enquire about alternative payment options.

Our fees are displayed in the clinic, in our information brochure, and on our website (below under current fees).  Our team will always let you know in advance if any fees apply when you book your appointment.

Bulk Billing News - Effective 1st November 2025

Ensuring the Future of Local Healthcare
As a small, community-based medical practice, our ability to offer bulk billing relies heavily on Medicare rebates, which in the past have not kept pace with the rising costs of providing healthcare in a private practice.
We are proud to take this step to support our community, but we also need to ensure our patients are educated on the long-term sustainability of our clinic.  We may need to review this model in the future if it becomes financially unsustainable.  Ongoing and increasing costs of operating a private health business as well as ensuring the sustainability of our team to ensure we continue to deliver health care locally, now and in the future.

Our Commitment to You
This change reflects our strong commitment to supporting our patients and our local community by making healthcare more affordable and accessible for everyone.
We understand that changes to billing can be confusing, and our team is here to help.
Our team will do our best to explain any fees and we will keep our information as clear as possible for ease of understanding.
Please ensure your Medicare details are up to date.
